End of line for Apple's 1U servers: the company today announced that it will discontinue products as of January 31, 2011 (but maintain its active support indefinitely, honoring the consumer guarantee).
To the owners of Xserves, it is worth noting that Apple will continue selling drive modules for the 160GB, 1TB and 2TB server until the end of next year, or until stocks run out (whichever comes first).
The first Xserve was announced by Apple in May 2002 (with a 1GHz PowerPC G4 processor!), Followed by the RAID model in February 2003. The last update, in December last year, was not very significant updating processors, hard drives and maximum RAM capacity.
