Apple confirms that it has cars on streets in the US, England and Ireland collecting data for its Maps

Confirming a rumor that appeared at the end of last month, Apple today published a page on its website about Apple Maps as reported in the first hand the The Guardian.

Apple has vehicles collecting data around the world that will be used to improve Apple Maps. Some of this data will be published in future updates to Apple Maps.

The page already lists a number of cities / locations where cars are working, initially in the United States, England and Ireland. Apparently, they are on a script scheduled for June 15-30. Subsequently, others should be listed.

As always, Apple is very concerned about people's privacy and says that it will “blur faces and license plates” in collected images. This is not only important for users, but also suggests that, in fact, Apple would be building a competitor for Google Street View.

We all know that Apple has a lot of ground to match the quality of its maps with that of Google Maps, but at the very least all of this investment should also encourage Google to continue innovating and improving its service. Competition, in the end, what benefits users the most.
