Apple confirms data collection on foot for its Maps

Last month we talked about a new geospatial data capture modality that Apple was implementing for its Maps: People on foot, with huge backpacks packed with special gear on their backs, simply walking the city streets and collecting as much information as possible.

At the time, the discovery was made by chance (though Apple made no attempt to hide it, since it emblazoned the name “Apple Maps” on the backpacks); Now, Ma has finally officially confirmed the new modality.

Apple Maps Backpack

On the page that lists where Map capture vehicles will travel in the near future, Apple has included some cities in the California with the “pedestrian” parenthesis, indicating that instead of cars, these places will have their data collected by employees at p. Locations include Los Angeles, San Francisco and the counties of Santa Clara, Santa Cruz, San Mateo and Alameda, and Ma andaro employees there from November 26 to December 10.

For now, these locations in California are the only ones contemplated by capturing data after the Maps, but it is not hard to imagine that the modality will be expanded to other cities of them, especially in Europe and here in South America, full of alleys. where cars hardly pass; Individual collection would be a hand on the wheel to collect data from these locations.

Internal Mapping

Following the “slowly and always” mantra, Ma also added a number of new airports and malls to the internal maps from the platform.

Won the internal mapping the Copenhagen Airportin Denmark and the Sky Harbor International Airport, in Phoenix (USA). In addition, several shopping centers from cities like Atlanta, Louisville, Toronto, Hong Kong and Singapore.

All of these locations now have a detailed outline of their internal architecture indicating shops, restaurants, restrooms, elevators, stairways and (in the case of airports) terminals, gates, baggage claim, shopping areas. check in and much more.
