Apple completes acquisition of Shazam and will eliminate in-app advertising

A few weeks after the European Commission approved the Apple’s acquisition of Shazam, originally announced in late 2017, Apple confirmed today that the deal is officially finished.

“Apple and Shazam have a long history together. Shazam was one of the first apps available when we launched the App Store and it became a favorite app for music fans around the world, ”said Oliver Schusser, vice president of Apple Music. “With a shared love of music and innovation, we are happy to bring our teams together to provide users with even better ways to discover, experience and enjoy music.”

According to Apple, Shazam has been downloaded more than 1 billion times and is now used more than 20 million times a day – and that number will certainly increase even more under the tutelage of Apple, which also today announced the removal of advertisements that permeated the application (that is, it should kill the Shazam Encore, which was paid and without ads).

In the future, we can expect even greater integration of Shazam technology into Apple Music and Apple’s own operating systems.
