Apple Music Connect, a social networking function for the streaming service, was discontinued last Thursday (13). The resource served as a communication platform between artists and fans, with posts of texts and videos from behind the scenes, among other exclusive content. Apple did not detail the reasons that led to the cancellation, but it is speculated that singers, singers and bands did not adhere to the proposal as the company expected.

As of this Friday (13), the platform does not accept new posts, and the old publications no longer appear in the "Para Voc" section and in other parts of the service. Users will be able to manually search for posts until March 29, 2019, the date set for the total removal of content from Connect.

Connect was announced as one of the pillars of Apple Music in 2015. On that occasion, Apple referred to the resource as a means of aggregating artists' communications with fans in one place. The idea was to make Apple Music a platform capable of replacing both rival streaming services and social networks.
However, despite initial publicity with famous names like Drake and Pharrel Williams, artists were reluctant to abandon platforms like Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, leaving Connect without updated posts. As a consequence, Apple has been giving less prominence to function over time. In 2016, a year after the launch, Connect no longer has a dedicated tab in the Apple Music app and has been incorporated into the For you menu.

Apple Music Connect is not Apple's first failure in a social networking attempt. In 2010, the company launched iTunes Ping, a service that was intended to be a meeting place for iTunes users on the iPhone and iPod Touch. The platform was closed two years later after low acceptance. Instead, Apple now allows music to be shared on Facebook and Twitter.
