Apple celebrates partnership with (RED); company has raised $ 160 million to fight AIDS!

The partnership between Apple and the (RED), an organization founded in 2006 by Bono and Bobby Shriver to fight AIDS, not today. The last time we brought it up, Ma had raised more than $ 120 million; now, in a press release, she informed that, only in 2017, she already passed on more than $ 30 million for the Global Fund.

To give you an idea, the amount is equivalent to 144 million days of medication that prevents the transmission of HIV from mothers to babies; since the foundation of (RED), more than 37 million people with HIV have already been helped by the organization; over the past 11 years, Apple customers have helped provide 475 million days of life-saving drugs.

Partnership between Apple and (RED)

Here's Apple's statement:

Connecting our products and services helps make it easier for our customers to join us in the effort to create the first generation without AIDS. In working with (RED) to stop the transmission of HIV from mothers to babies, we already see a significant impact in areas where help is most needed. We are committed to continuing the struggle and empowering future generations through these vital efforts.

Lisa Jackson, Apple's vice president of environment, policy and social initiatives.

And that of (RED):

Apple's commitment to the fight against AIDS is unmatched. It is not just the surprising $ 160 million raised for the Global Fund that has affected millions of lives, but their ability to attract warmth, awareness, energy and attention to keep this issue up front and center. Your unwavering support cannot be underestimated and we thank all Apple employees for helping (RED) reach the milestone of half a billion dollars handed over to help end this disease.

Deb Dugan, CEO of (RED).

As said by Dugan, the organization has raised $ 500 million for the Global Fund since its foundation, helping to finance programs that offer AIDS prevention, testing, treatment, counseling and care services in areas where it is most needed. Today, 20.9 million people have access to life-saving medicines, compared to 19.5 million at the end of 2016 and only 700,000 in 2000.

The percentage of pregnant women living with HIV and receiving treatment has also increased dramatically: 76% in 2016, against 47% in 2010. In 2005, 1,200 babies were born every day with HIV. Today, that number of “only” 400 and UNAIDS predicts that it will be close to zero by 2020, with the world on track to end AIDS in 2030!

In celebration of World AIDS Day, more than 400 Apple stores will have the company logo painted red; and for each Apple Pay transaction made (whether physical, online or in an app), Apple donates $ 1 to the Global Fund.
