Apple beats Samsung in US smartphone sales in first quarter

The race for leadership in the smartphones it is an eternal dispute: in each period, a manufacturer gets a small lead, only to be dethroned shortly thereafter. In the first quarter, Apple managed to stand out from its main rival – at least in the United States.

In the estimates of Consumer Intelligence Research Partners (CIRP), Apple snapped 36% of the American smartphone market in the first quarter of 2019, against 34% of the Samsung. The result is much better than that of the same period in 2018, when the Apple was 31% market share, but it is still far below the performance obtained in the previous two years – in 2016, for example, the Cupertino giant achieved 40%.

The rest was basically divided by LG, with 11%, and Motorola, with 10%; in addition, the “Others” category, made up of all the other manufacturers, took the remaining 10% of the segment. According to CIRP, this approach of Motorola in relation to LG is one of the most interesting aspects of the last survey – the American manufacturer spent years on the margins of the market and now, with a series of recent successes, it is about to regain third place in the market. segment.

It is worth noting that Apple’s good results are not entirely Apple’s merit: Samsung, after all, has put its new flagships on the market only in early March, which delayed consumer interest.

It will be interesting to see what numbers we have in the next quarter, as both Apple and Samsung will have their latest flagships on the market. Forecasts show that the iPhone will continue to have low sales, which may be a harbinger of not very good results for Apple – but the reality, only time will tell.
