Apple announces recall of plug adapters, including in Brazil

Through a press release, Apple said today that it is putting the adapter change program for AC wall connector (better known as recall).

According to the company, in “very rare” cases the AC wall connector adapter manufactured for use in Continental Europe, Australia, New Zealand, Korea, Argentina and in Brazil it can break and create a risk of electric shock if the person touches it. These wall connector adapters were sold from 2003 to 2015 with Macs, certain iOS devices and also included in the Apple Travel Adapter Kit (which by some mystery is not yet sold in Brazil).

The other wall connectors, including Apple USB power adapters available in the United States, England, China and Japan at the are affected by the problem.

Customer safety is Apple's top priority, and we have voluntarily decided to change the wall connector adapters affected by new and redesigned adapters free of charge.

The first step is to compare your adapter with those in the image above. A wall connector adapter has four or five characters or numerals in the slot interior where connected to an Apple power adapter. The redesigned adapters have a three-letter regional code on the slot (EUR, KOR, AUS, ARG or BRA).

If yours has a code with numbers and letters, it is affected and needs to be changed. To do this, go to an Apple Retail Store (it is recommended to make an appointment at the Genius Bar) or an Apple Authorized Service Center. As part of the exchange process, Apple will verify the serial number of your Mac, iPad, iPhone or iPod with which the adapter was sold (good to have this information on hand in this support article, Apple teaches you how to find the number of on your devices).
