THE Apple announced today a partnership with General Electric (GE) in order to create “industrial” apps for iOS.
To help with this task, the companies announced a new software development kit (SDK) for Predix, which help in the creation of industrial applications focused on the “internet of things” (Internet of Things, or IoT), to control from lifts to jet engines to oil refineries or whatever else you need to streamline the work of the workers.
GE is the ideal partner, with a rich history of innovation throughout the industrial world in areas such as aviation, manufacturing, health and energy. Together, Apple and GE are fundamentally changing the way the industrial world works, combining GE's Predix platform with the power and simplicity of the iPhone and iPad.
Tim cook, CEO of Apple.
With the partnership, GE develops applications both for internal use and for its customers. In addition, the company will standardize the use of iPhones, iPads and Macs among its global staff of over 330,000 employees.
Already Apple is promoting GE's Predix as the industrial analytics platform for its customers and developers. The new Predix iOS SDK will be available for download next Thursday, October 26th.
As we know, the adoption of iPhones and iPads in corporate environments is already quite considerable, but Apple wants to take it to higher levels with this new partnership. Others in the business world include IBM, Cisco, Accenture, SAP and Deloitte.
