Apple already holds 27% of the world market for devices with LTE

Although 4G (LTE) technology has been available for a while, Apple only entered this market with the third generation iPad and later with the iPhone 5. Even though it was a newcomer, the company managed to win 26.7% of the market for devices compatible with the technology during the third quarter of this year, according to a survey by Strategy Analytics.

Still a leader, Samsung held 40% of the market during the same period, down 10.9 percentage points from the previous quarter. LG (9.1%) and Motorola Mobility (6.7%) also suffered with the arrival of Apple, losing respectively 5.9 and 8.3 percentage points.

The entire market is expected to close 2012 more than five times as big as it started. In 2011, 9 million devices compatible with LTE technology were purchased and the forecast for 2012 is 50 million.
