Apple just acquired the Emotient, an startup based in San Diego (United States) that developed facial recognition technology.
According to Wall Street Journal, which obtained confirmation of the purchase with Apple, Emotient's biggest customers were advertisers interested in analyzing viewers' reactions to their ads. Doctors have also explored the technology to obtain information from patients with speech difficulties, for example.
Although it confirmed the purchase of Emotient, Apple's statement was standard without giving details of its purposes or plans and the value of the deal was not disclosed. But this is not her first acquisition related to the world of artificial intelligence (AI), like VocalIQ, Perceptio and Faceshift.
We'll see what comes next. 🙂
