According to TechCrunch, Apple recently acquired the Faceshift, an startup based in Zurich (Switzerland) that has developed a technology to create animated avatars and figures that capture a person's facial expressions in real time, her website already gives a good idea of what we are talking about.
Rumors about this acquisition already existed, but the TechCrunch investigated everything thoroughly and found clues to the business. Because of this, Apple ended up confirming everything to the site with its traditional statement: "Apple acquires smaller technology companies from time to time and we generally don't discuss our purposes or plans."
As a curiosity, Faceshift's technology was used in the film “Star Wars: The Awakening of the Force” (see it in action on the video below, at 0’41 ”):
It is not clear what Apple will do with such technologies, but it is true that several employees of startup they are now working for Ma.
