Apple may be in an uncomfortable position with its investors because of the low sales of iPhones, but that doesn't mean that the company as a whole is in bad shape much to the contrary. Today, Ma announced that App store had the most financially successful week in all of its history, with revenues coming in between Christmas and New Year.
Last week 2018, consumer spending on Ma's app store hit $ 1.22 billion, absolute record for a period of seven days. In addition, New Year's Day (January 1) saw the largest single day revenue, with $ 322 million spent by users the previous record was $ 300 million.
“Thanks to the inspiring work of our talented developers and the support of our incredible users around the world, the App Store closed a wonderful 2018 and started 2019 with a bang,” said Phil Schiller, Apple's senior vice president of global marketing.
According to the company, the most popular categories of app downloads and subscriptions in the period were games and personal care apps. Titles like Fortnite, PUBG, Brawl Stars, and Asphalt 9 were cited by Apple, and apps like 1Password, Sweat, and Lumosity were the champions of interest in their respective categories (productivity, health, wellness, and education).
Apple also noted in the statement the App Store's pivotal role in Services revenue, which broke all records in the last quarter. Certainly what Ma expects: With the iPhones skating, the segment should be the next eye girl of the company, and therefore the one where it should put its efforts most earnestly.
