According to the executive president of Google, Eric Schmidt, the Android platform, today a leader in the mobile segment, started to be developed well before the launch of the first iPhone.
“The vast majority of people agree that Google is a great innovator, and I would also like to point out that Android's efforts started before efforts on the iPhone. That is all I have to say, ”Schmidt told reporters during his visit to Taipei.
His statement belies the criticisms of former Apple CEO Steve Jobs who declared Android to be an imitation of iOS, of the iPhone.
“I decided not to comment on the quotes described in the book after his death. I don't think it's right, ”said Schmidt, describing Jobs as a“ fantastic human being ”that he misses.
The Android software was created by a startup launched in 2003 by former Apple engineer Andy Rubin. Google bought Android in 2005 for an undisclosed amount and then spent several years working on the mobile software system until its official announcement in 2007.
