Android Reaches 500 Million Global Activation Milestone

Today, the day the iPhone 5 will be introduced, Andy Rubin, Google's senior vice president of mobile and digital content, and Hugo Barra, director of product management, announced through their Twitter and Google+ accounts, respectively, what there are over 500 million globally activated Android devices. This represents an impressive milestone for our green little robot, as some 1.3 million units are activated every day.

A week ago Eric Schmidt announced at the Motorola Mobility launch event, "Motorola On Display", that the current number of activated Android devices was 480 million. In a matter of days, the "Android Army" has multiplied and increased by 20 million.

The growth of the Android market is a certainty, because every month we announce, here on AndroidPIT, new and innovative handsets that run with Google's operating system, such as the recent Samsung Galaxy Note 2, Nexus 7 or Galaxy S3. In addition, Sony, Motorola, LG, Huawei and Asus are working on increasingly elaborate devices for different markets, so the tendency for Android to become even more popular and this half-billion global actives is increasing rapidly.

I can see Andy perfectly repeating the words of Capt. Jack Sparrow:
