Android 8.1 can reduce the size of inactive apps

In addition to the traditional security fixes, Android 8.1 may come with a very useful new feature, especially for users with many apps installed.

According to XDA Developers, Google is working on a new feature for Android that saves storage space by reducing the size of applications that are not active.

XDA detected a new code in AOSP, which would have described this new feature. With this, the operating system will automatically check for inactive apps and, in turn, reduce the size.

Through the new Google Files Go app, launched experimentally for Android, users can clear the apps cache (and free up space) with just a touch of the screen.

Whether the feature will actually be released with Android 8.1, this has yet to be seen.
