Andalusia «hires» virtual robot that gives tourist information via messenger

The Junta de Andalucía and Microsoft yesterday announced in Malaga, Spain, the last reinforcement of the team of the Consejería de Turismo, Comercio y Deporte, a virtual robot named Lucía that will provide tourist information through MSN Live.

The virtual robot, which had been presented at the last edition of the Madrid International Tourism Fair (Fitur), can be added to the Messenger contact list at robotlucia@andalucia.org and will be operational from next Friday on the 14th of July.

«Lucía» will appear as a normal contact for the user, who will be able to ask questions on different topics about the region of Andalusia, namely beaches, hotels, parties or monuments. The system initially contemplates between 500 to 600 possible questions, with up to 15 answers for each question.

The initiative was announced as the first of its kind in the world for the tourism sector.
