The most recent update of the infringement proceedings section of the National Communications Authority (Anacom) reveals that the regulator imposed a fine of 200 thousand euros on Portugal Telecom (PT) for having made commercial contacts that violated the deliberations imposed .

The discrimination of customers and the fact of not ensuring transparency in relation to information about products and services were some of the flaws pointed out, as well as the disregard for the guard period that prevents the operator from enticing customers who have just changed operator.

In a statement issued on its website, Anacom mentions that PT made «in the period from 01.11.2007 to 03.06.2008, on its own initiative, 71 contacts and 13 attempts to contact customers in custody in the context of commercial campaigns» and «45 contacts and 16 attempts to contact customers in custody» under other commercial campaigns.

As mentioned by the regulator, PT has already been notified of the decision, having decided to appeal to the Lisbon Court of Commerce.

Among the set of sanctions recently decided by Anacom, in the area of telecom, are also penalties of admonition to Zon and Sonaecom for the failure to send statistical information on the scheduled dates.

In the case of Zon, the company did not send statistical data regarding its activity as a provider of the voice service over the Internet (VoIP) for the first quarter of 2008.

As for Sonaecom – which appealed the decision – it is at fault for not having sent the information related to Internet access services provided in the third quarter of 2007, says the regulator.
