AMD will focus on improving open source driver support for Linux

AMD promises to improve support for Linux drivers at Game Developer Conference 2014

Future AMD / ATI Drivers Should Come Enhanced

AMD announced on Game Developer Conference 2014 a new stance for improving Linux drivers on your video cards and APUs.

AMD-best-driver-linux As we know of the top 3 GPUs on the market that are worst supported by AMD / ATI cards, I myself wrote an article a while ago telling you about my experience with an AMD APU, see more here. According to reports AMD would be planning to launch a considerable improvement soon by helping the community with open source drivers in a way similar to Nvidia's support for the Noveau project, This means that the drivers that will be included in future releases of the Linux kernel will deliver better performance for the company's boards.

With the help of Valve and to improve support and performance of Steam Machines that bring AMD hardware the company has also made sure to strive to deliver a product far superior to what exists today.

It wouldn't be the first time AMD has made such a promise, but as it was at a public event this time we really hope it's true, so we'll have more decent support for our cards that work on Windows perfectly or at least perform better.
