AMD «bites» Intel in the price of quad core

Processor market grows with AMD gaining share

Launched in June by AMD, the Athlon II brand has just welcomed the first four-core processor on the market with a price below $ 100, showing that the manufacturer’s dispute with rival Intel for the market’s interest remains well lit.

The new Athlon II X4 620 is the first processor in the range with a price below the $ 100 barrier. The new quad core models, which include the X4 620, have several similarities to the Phenom II. The main difference is the absence of a level 3 cache, which made the price more competitive.

Comparisons between models are already circulating in the specialized press (whose price for manufacturers differs by about 20 dollars), but opinions are not unanimous.

Still, it is possible to find positive notes to the bet of number 2 of the processors for having managed to combine the product with a competitive price and some interesting features.

The Athlon II X4 620 features a clock speed of 2.6 GHz and a level 2 cache of 2 MB, characteristics identical to other models in the line.
