Amazon has just added a new feature to its book store in digital format that allows you to offer eBooks. Even if the recipient of the gift does not have a device dedicated exclusively to reading the format – the Kindle.

In the words of the company itself, «customers will be able to offer Kindle books to anyone with an email address», since the contents can be viewed through the various Kindle applications on different platforms.

Applications that allow access to eBooks – and synchronization of readings and bookmarks with dedicated readers, if the user also has one – are free and are currently available for desktop and smartphones, ensuring versions for PC and Mac, as well as for iPad and Android, BlackBerry and iPhone phones. A version for Microsoft’s new mobile OS, Windows Phone 7, has also been promised.

The novelty is already available on the Amazon website, just select the book you want to purchase and click on the new button «Give as a Gift». Then a box is displayed where the user enters the email of the recipient of the offer and a personal message, if he wishes.

The feature was introduced on Friday, less than a month after Amazon announced that it was now possible to borrow Kindle books, also among users of the reader’s various platforms and applications.
