Amazon explores social networks with acquisition of Shelfari

Amazon announced the acquisition of Shelfari, a social network dedicated to lovers of literature. The deal comes three weeks after the retailer online buy AbeBooks, which owns a share of LibraryThing, rival to Shelfari.

With this acquisition, the company, which already owned a part of the platform, maintains the strategy announced a few months ago and which is expanding to other niche markets online flee the e-commerce.

The value of the transaction was not announced by the two companies, which keep some secrecy about the future of the social network, namely in the way it will be explored by Amazon.
