Until the end of the year, up to 900 thousand Magalhães laptops can travel to Argentina. The information is advanced in this morning’s edition of Diário de Notícias, which cites a government source to say that the company JP Sá Couto is participating in a contest currently underway in the country, well positioned to win it. The results of the contest are known on the 15th of December.
The information is released regarding the start of the Portuguese Prime Minister’s visit to the country. José Sócrates will participate in the 20th Ibero-American Summit – which has education as its central theme – and in the bilateral meetings of the event he will take advantage to promote Portuguese capacity in various economic sectors. Information Technologies are part of this range, as well as the areas of public works, transport, tourism and telecommunications
Magalhães, manufactured by JP Sá Couto, is the laptop to support the Portuguese educational system, in the first cycle of basic education. It has also been exported to other geographies, with the most significant step in the internationalization of the notebook being taken with Venezuela.
It should also be remembered that this is not the first time that José Sócrates has taken advantage of the Summit to promote equipment based on Intel’s reference design. In 2008, in El Salvador, Sócrates distributed Magalhães to the heads of state of 22 countries, present at the event.
It is also not the first time that information has emerged regarding Argentina’s interest in Magalhães. In 2008, the communities’ Secretary of State, António Braga, visiting the country confirmed his interest in the equipment and revealed that a new technical visit to the country was already scheduled at the time to discuss the matter.
