Alliance concluded between Microsoft and Yahoo

Microsoft and Yahoo announced that they have successfully completed negotiations for their online search and advertising deal.

The companies should have defined the details of the partnership until the 27th of October, but the objective proved to be of greater complexity than expected and the two giants were forced to postpone the final contours of their commitment.

“Yahoo! and Microsoft are recognized for the great support given by key players in the advertising sector and maintain the hope that the transaction can be completed in early 2010 ”, say the companies in a joint statement, quoted by Lusa.

The agreement signed at the end of July between Microsoft and Yahoo predicts that over the next 10 years Yahoo will use Microsoft’s search technology, supported on Bing. In return, Microsoft hands Yahoo the exclusive sale of online research-related advertising.

“Microsoft and Yahoo! think that this agreement will create a lasting and seductive alternative in searches, which could bring benefits to consumers, advertisers and publishers, as well as more innovation «, underline in the same note.

The agreement is limited to search technology and associated advertising. The companies maintain completely different activities with regard to online presence, exploitation of advertising for portals and other business areas.

With the alliance, Microsoft and Yahoo want to face Google, the industry’s undisputed leader, which in October dominated 65.4 percent of the North American market, against 18 percent for Yahoo and 9.9 percent for Bing.
