For the fifth consecutive quarter since the merger, Alcatel-Lucent ended a fiscal quarter with significant losses. In the first three months of this year, the company recorded negative net results in the order of 181 million euros.
The losses exceeded the estimates of market analysts and multiplied more than 20 times the losses of a year ago, when the manufacturer lost 8 million euros. Alcatel-Lucent’s turnover also declined and revenues ended up at 3.86 billion euros – 0.5 percent less than in the same period last year.
The results undermine the hopes of the company, which now estimates its annual turnover to drop by 2 to 5 percent. PatrĂcia Russo, CEO of Alcatel-Lucent, even stresses that she has no idea how much to change the trend reposted in recent months.
Last year alone, the manufacturer laid off 6,700 employees, a measure included in the company’s restructuring plan that provides for the dismissal of more than 12,000 employees.
