Alcatel and Microsoft signed an agreement for the joint development of an IP technology solution for television (IPTV). In a statement, the companies explain that the integrated distribution solution that will result will benefit from Alcatelās experience in the area of āābroadband, IP networks, development and integration of end-to-end multimedia and video solutions, as well as Microsoftās experience in the field of software for television and devices aimed at the consumer market.
The main objective of the partnership is to accelerate the development of IPTV-based services for broadband operators worldwide. The partnership also foresees the joint implementation of several initiatives which include the development and customization of new applications in this area and the integration of content, security and software digital rights management to ensure the secure distribution of high quality content inside and outside the home.
The companies hope that the new solution will help the development of IP technology in television formats and allow service providers in that area to reduce costs and development time, improving their ability to respond to the market, details a statement.
The document also explains that the two companies share the same view that consumers should be able to receive personalized services through multiple devices, including television. As an example, applications of streaming video, interactive television, sharing music and video content and games online.
