Two weeks ago, we talked about the new external SSD from Samsung with connection Thunderbolt 3 that brings dizzying speeds of reading and writing. Now, this peripheral of Akitio it has a similar nature – but with appeal to a very different type of audience.
The Californian company may not be known to the general public, but it has already acquired a certain tradition with advanced users in its line of high-performance peripherals for Macs and PCs. An example of this is the SSD drawer. Node Lite, whose new red special edition is precisely the novelty we are dealing with here.
This blood-red edition differs from its more discreet sister (besides color, of course) by including a 960GB Intel Optane NVMe SSD, capable of delivering very high performance to users who need stratospheric transfer rates. The two Thunderbolt 3 ports guarantee a reading speed of 2.6GB / s and 2.2GB / s of writing!
In addition, a DisplayPort port (and the extra Thunderbolt port itself) makes the red Node Lite also act as a hub, as you can connect accessories such as an external GPU, monitor, or some other peripheral directly through the accessory. Obviously, the idea here is not to make the eyes of the users more discreet: the vivid red, combined with the window on the side of the product and the LEDs that illuminate the SSD inside make the accessory a really flashy unit – if you don’t like it, you will need to purchase the “traditional” Node Lite (gray) and the Intel SSD separately.
The red Node Lite comes out for $ 1,500 on American Amazon – price that may seem quite salty, but considering that only the 960GB Intel Optane costs $ 1,200 separately, it might not be that bad. Did you like it?
