We know that, from time to time, a case of iPhone or another smartphone appears that simply catches fire because of a battery problem. They are not as recurring problems – in the case of Apple – but they are also not as rare as the company would like.
This time, however, something unprecedented occurred: the device that would have caught fire was Apple’s wireless headphones, the famous AirPods!
Jason Colon, resident of Florida (United States), told the affiliate TV network of NBC who was in the gym normally, exercising, when his AirPods started to fail and he noticed white smoke coming from one of them.
Colon then left the pair of headphones on a device and went to get help. When he returned, the phone was completely destroyed as it appears in the photo. That is, he did not actually see the device “explode”, but clearly there were flames – quite possibly, something related to the battery.
From the report, it is possible to see that Colon is a user of Apple products, since he also has an Apple Watch; then, the surprise and fear that the device could explode while it was in your ears is notorious, which could cause you serious problems – like that case of the woman whose Beats headphones exploded in your face.
As this was the first – and we hope that the last – case, the news came very quickly to Apple, which has already said it is investigating the problem and will contact Colon to talk about what happened.
