Airbnb tests payment division to facilitate group travel

Splitting your Airbnb account will be easier. The platform that allows you to rent rooms and entire houses per season tests a new form of payment, in which you can share the payment with up to 16 friends. Until then, only one person registered on the site is allowed to pay the debt even if it is a group or family trip.

The shared payment will make life easier for anyone who intends to travel with friends and relatives, since it will have the advantage of not concentrating the value of the stay on a single credit card. The feature, for now, is only available to a few users and there is still no deadline to be released to all.

Currently, if a group of friends chooses to stay on Airbnb, payment is made by only one of them, concentrating the amount on a single form of payment such as card, PayPal or similar. With the new proposal, the account will be split within the website or application itself. This feature will be similar to the shared Uber payment that divides the cost of the trip.

Thus, it will be possible to avoid some problems, such as overloading a single card with a high value blocking the credit limit or the embarrassment of having to charge a friend after the trip. In addition, splitting the bill can also encourage the group to choose a better place and extend their stay.

«We are currently testing a way to split the cost of a trip between more than one traveler on the Airbnb platform. It’s still early, so we don’t have any more information to share right now,» Airbnb spokesman Tim Rathschmidt told dnetc

The new payment method at AirBnb arrives shortly after the company acquired Tilt, the platform that facilitates the famous «cow» among friends.
