AI turns your photo into a Stranger Things poster

A developer has created a creative way to show that you are a fan of Stranger Things using artificial intelligence. Through the page called Even Stranger (evenstranger.pw) the user can use his own photos to create posters. The difference is that the site can identify the elements of the image and change the title of the poster. The technology brings the same AI concept used to identify people in photos by big companies like Google and Facebook. Of course, in different proportions.

It works in a very simple way. To create a new poster, just click on the TV in «upload image». The poster is created automatically by changing the sign to something that catches the attention of the algorithm. In the first case, it was the glasses, changing the message to Stranger Eyewear. Works best with just one person in the photo. In group photos, the system can get confused.

The technology, even in the simplest form, is the same behind some features used by large companies. When Google Photos is able to group photos of your dog or cat, it is using artificial intelligence, more precisely machine learning.

Machine learning, as the name suggests, is a type of algorithm that manages to assimilate new things according to use. One of the most used ways is to identify elements in photos – as Evan Stranger did – but it can also be used for more complex things, like neural networks.

Visit the website and create your own poster (evenstranger.pw).

Recently, Google created a tool to show the concept of machine learning. The Teachable Machine website explains in a very simple way, with the computer webcam, how the technology works.
