Google has announced the implementation of machine learning technology in Chrome so that the browser is able to identify deceptive extensions installations.
Protection is part of Google’s initiative to allow users to install extensions directly from a third-party website – which can often happen inappropriately.
“[Chrome] will use machine learning to evaluate each request for inline installation for misleading, confusing or malicious ad signs or web pages, ”says Google.
«When we find these signs, we’ll selectively disable this inline installation request and direct the user to the extension page on the Chrome Web Store.»
According to Google, only 3% of extensions occur through “deceptive or confusing” installations.
