The agreement between the Government and the telecommunications operators for investment in new generation networks will be signed in January, when the executive is expected to announce the anticipation of the goals he had proposed when he defined the guidelines for the sector.

By the end of the year, the two parties are expected to meet at least once again, according to the Jornal de Negócios, trying to reach an agreement on the values of private investment.

The new generation networks were considered by the Government as a strategic investment area for 2009. In order to guarantee their development, the State reserved a certain amount, as happened for areas such as energy, education and exports, however, the value is significantly lower. .

In total, the Government plans to spend a maximum of 50 million euros on these infrastructures over the next year, a figure that will be made available through investment incentives and the promotion of domestic and institutional use of the networks. Both aspects of the envisaged support are considered as a tax expense.
