Quickoffice, a provider of software for smartphones, announced an agreement with Nokia that provides for the use of its software business on the equipment supported by the Series 60 platform. Through Quickoffice, users of Series 60 equipment will have easier access to their Word, Excel and PowerPoint files, the company reveals in a statement.
The agreement will allow Nokia to present an alternative to Microsoft formats on its Series 60 devices, although the Finnish company also maintains cross-licensing agreements with the North American giant, especially for the Outlook area.
The Series 60 platform is currently one of the most licensed in the world for smartphones, based on the Symbian operating system and allowing various configurations of hardware and software. Applications include Web browsing, presence and messaging services, in addition to e-commerce applications.
Companies using the Series 60 platform include Lenovo, LG, Panasonic, Samsung, Sendo and Siemens AG.
