After several deaths, Apple removes e-cigarette apps from the App Store

Turn and move we see Apple doing some "clean" on App store, whether it is removing applications that are basically clones, some that just try to fool users, others that just don't fit the company rules for your store, among other reasons. And this week, Ma is putting in place one more cleaning.

According to the Axios, apps from electronic cigarettes (we're talking 181 apps in all) are being removed from the store. The reason? In the United States, at least 42 people have died from lung diseases related to these cigarettes and more than 2,000 cases of lung problems have emerged, according to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention.

Since June Apple was no longer accepting to make new e-cigarette apps available on the App Store; Now, with the exception of those already being offered, it completes the cycle and ends once vapes within your ecosystem.

Apple has made the following statement to Axios:

We take great care of curating the App Store to make it a trusted place for customers, particularly young people, to download apps. We are constantly evaluating apps and consulting the latest evidence to determine the health and welfare risks of users.

Recently, experts from the American Heart Association's Center for Disease Control and Disease have attributed a variety of lung injuries and fatalities to electronic and electronic cigarette products. vaping, even calling for the dissemination of these public health crisis and youth epidemic devices.

We agree and update our App Store Review Guidelines to reflect which applications which encourage or facilitate the use of these products are not permitted. These applications are no longer available for download.

Apple's attitude was highly praised by Matthew L. Myers, President of the Children's Tobacco Campaign:

The campaign for tobacco-free children applauds Apple for taking this important step and doing its part to tackle the youth electronic cigarette epidemic. By removing e-cigarette-related applications from the App Store, Apple will help reduce youth exposure to e-cigarette marketing and discourage young people from using e-cigarette products. Apple is setting a welcome example of corporate responsibility in protecting our children.

Obviously, as always happens in those cases, those who have already downloaded any of these apps continue to have access to them in their current versions.
