Joe Hewitt, developer of the first versions of the official Facebook app, has been known to speak ill of the App Store and even announce that he has given up on it completely. Now that he's decided to embrace Android, he has new things to complain about.
In a series of tweets comparing Google's system to Windows (for being friendly, but badly done), downloading the DROID X ball, complaining about Java, AMOLED screens (especially on his Nexus One, which currently gathers p), commenting on fragmentation of the platform (and indicating that the solution to this is to buy more smarpthones), Hewitt simply demonstrates that he urgently needs a hug. Seriously: this person's life lacks love!
Despite basically detesting everything on Android, only one thing keeps it on the platform: the fact that it is not controlled like iOS, something like the philosophy “the suffering of freedom is better than the comfort of a cage”.
I think that Hewitt's option when leaving the App Store was extremely correct and praiseworthy, except that apparently you cannot have everything in this life as an open and rule-free garden, but always clean and well maintained. Particularly, I defend the idea of full freedom where it really matters (in "real life", so to speak), but I think it's worth giving up on her to not have to worry about details like managing the amount of RAM in a gadget, since it simplifies my day-to-day life.
Whether you like it or not, I am free to make this choice.
