After all, what is the difference between Cinema Mode, Do Not Disturb and Silent Mode on the Apple Watch?

At the time of its launch, the Apple Watch (or, more precisely, watchOS) was received with a series of criticisms regarding an alleged difficulty of use and the steep learning curve required to use the accessory skillfully. Four years later, many of these criticisms disappeared: the clock has evolved, its system even more and the public, in general, has become accustomed to the paradigms related to its functioning.

Some parts of the Watch experience, however, can still confuse some. Example: since Apple introduced the so-called Cinema Mode in watchOS 3.2, the accessory now has neither one nor two, but three muting modes, so to speak the other two are the Silence mode it's the Do Not Disturb. All of them are accessible through the watch's Control Center, but if the difference between them is a mystery to you, don't be afraid: we explain everything below.

Silence mode

As the name implies, it completely mutes all notifications on the Apple Watch, which does not emit sounds under any circumstances. The clock screen still lights up when a notification arrives or when you raise your wrist, however.

Apple Watch Quiet Mode

The mode can be activated by touching the bell cone in the Control Center.

Do Not Disturb

Completely mutes all notifications (that is, does not emit sounds, vibrates or lights the Watch screen), except those coming from contacts registered in your list of favorites. The accessory will still light up the screen if you raise your wrist. In the Apple Watch app for iPhone, it is possible to activate the option “mirror iPhone” to activate the same mode on the cell phone automatically when it is turned on in the clock.

Apple Watch Disturb

The mode can be activated by touching the moon cone in the Control Center.

Cinema Mode

It is a more in-depth Silent Mode, for moments when you don't want your watch to shine, like seeing the name in a cinema or theater. The notifications that arrive at the Watch will not emit sounds or light the accessory screen and, even raising your wrist, it will not call; for this, it is necessary to touch the screen of the device or rotate the Digital Crown to gradually increase its brightness (from Apple Watch Series 2). In return, it will issue vibrating alerts.

Apple Watch Cinema Mode

The mode can be activated by touching the icon of the theater masks in the Control Center.

A final tip: if your watch is ringing with a notification and you want to stop it quickly, just cover your screen with your palm for a few moments until you feel a little vibration; the Silent Mode is activated automatically. If that doesn't work, just activate the “Cover to Silence” feature in the Apple Watch app, in the My Watch tab, by going to “Sound and Touch”.

Make good use of the tips. 😉
