Adobe uses Ubuntu to showcase its new "Scribbler" tool

Adobe demonstrates its new artificial intelligence coloring tool using Linux

Adobe often showcases many projects and technologies that eventually (sooner or later) eventually incorporate Creative Suite, with famous programs like Photoshop. At Adobe MAX 2017 the company showed the ScribblerIt's an amazing tool that can automatically color images using artificial intelligence. Adobe Project Scribller

The new Adobe tool has incredible functionality and possibly soon integrate Adobe Photoshop or maybe comes out as a standalone plugin or tool, even running through the browser, we still don't know exactly how it will be implemented, but a curious fact around the presentation. the use of Linux as a platform for the Scribller demo.

You can see at times the presence of Ubuntu with the Unity interface, probably Ubuntu 16.04 LTS, running the project through Google Chrome, we also have an open terminal.

This makes me suppose that Scribbler is actually a project made to run by accessing a server, maybe the demo was running on a local server (so from the open terminal and Linux too), and the content being accessed through Google Chrome. Just a guess.

Project Scribbler

Scribbler analyzes several photos pre-selected by developers to guess which colors would be the best for the images. He is able to color old paintings, B&W photos and even drawings. In the presentation we were also informed that the tool will still receive adjustments that will allow people to make minor modifications to the final result, such as changing skin tone. Another interesting thing that is worth noting is that you can insert sample textures for the software to cover images based on your active suggestion, as demonstrated with the stock image on the previous video.

It's interesting to see how Linux works behind the scenes of many technologies, often taking a back seat to the public, but ensuring the infrastructure of very interesting projects such as Scribbler. THE Red Hat for example one of Adobe's great partners for the maintenance of its structures.

Interesting, no? Of course it is inevitable to broach the subject of the native Adobe Linux suite, in this video's own comments we see several people mentioning the subject and making this request. As the way software is distributed changes, working more and more directly with the cloud, we may approach this compatibility, Flatpak, Snap packages and the like should also help. Never know.

See you next time!
