Adobe news includes final versions of Project Felix and XD, as well as a new Lightroom in the cloud [atualizado 2x]

After years at an almost electronic pace of updates and news, the Adobe he seems to have put his foot on the gas recently. Maybe because you feel the competition getting close? We don't know, but the fact that the legendary developer is now frequently announcing the development of new products and the evolution of existing ones.

At the conference Adobe MAX 2017, another batch of news is leaving the company and we will, of course, take a look at them below.

Adobe Dimension

It was at the same Adobe MAX s conference as last year that the software giant presented its Project Felix, a very intriguing software that combined the editing of 2D images with the recognition of 3D objects within it for adjustments that take into account volume, lighting and other characteristic elements of the third dimension. Now, the project is gaining its final version and becoming an official member of the Creative Cloud suite under a new name: Adobe Dimension.

Adobe Dimension

The main objective of the tool remains to bring 3D editing to the masses, since, with Dimension, it is possible to easily perform tasks that previously could only be done using extremely expensive and professional software. The big jump of the cat here, of course, is the infusion of very advanced machine learning skills (technology that, in the Adobe world, materializes in a brand called Sensei), which helps the user automatically identifying objects, scenarios, textures and lighting.

Adobe Dimension

To complement the experience of using Dimension, Adobe is adding support for 3D models and scenes on Stock, the website for downloading and selling digital materials maintained by the company.

Adobe XD

Another application that is coming out of the beta version is Adobe XD, dedicated to creating user interface designs for websites, mobile applications and the like.

Adobe XD

Like the other new features of the company, XD also goes on a path to simplify the experience with the help of artificial intelligence to make it more accessible to new users; here, we have several automated tools to facilitate the creation of the design one of them, for example, automatically recreates your project in several standard resolutions so that you do not have to repeat the work countless times.

The software naturally retains its collaboration skills and comments, adding, in this final version, an annotation feature so that users can mark their observations in a teamwork process, for example. Soon, new features will be added, such as support for layout grids and the ability to export projects in JPEG format.

New Lightroom

We all know (or at least have heard of) Lightroom, Adobe's photo management and bulk editing software that has more than ten years of history. Today, however, it is being divided into two incarnations: the software we all know is now called Lightroom Classic, while Lightroom itself becomes an entirely new, simplified and cloud-based tool.

New Adobe Lightroom

Adobe's idea is not very different (considering the different scales, of course) from Apple at the time of replacing iPhoto with Photos: we have a much more friendly program based on modern concepts, such as editing anywhere and recognizing elements ( again, through Adobe Sensei). The new Lightroom can be accessed even from a browser and has complete tools for sharing photos and entire albums, such as Google Photos, for example.

Lightroom continues to support, of course, the RAW format, and still has many features that most basic competitors, such as Apple Photos, do not even dream of incorporating. Still, it is a revolution in the way of thinking of the app that can make many users wrinkle their nose (which explains the survival of the original Lightroom under the new name).

Along with the new software, Adobe announced new subscription plans for its imaging programs. One includes only the new Lightroom CC and 1TB of cloud storage for R $ 35 / ms; another brings Lightroom CC, Lightroom Classic CC and Photoshop CC with 20GB of space in the cloud for the same amount and, finally, the most expensive of the plans brings the three software and 1TB of remote space for R $ 71 monthly.

Other news

Among the less dramatic updates, Adobe announced an interesting new feature for Typekit, its font subscription service. The call Visual Search (visual search) identifies real-world text on posters or signs or pamphlets or whatever and, with a little help from Adobe Sensei, helps the user find the right font used in the element. The feature had already been made available in beta to some users, but is now ready to be used worldwide; the Capture CC mobile app also has similar technology.

The software already established in the Creative Cloud suite, such as Photoshop, Premiere and After Effects, also gained new specific features. Video editing programs had their support for virtual reality projects expanded; Photoshop has gained new brush management features, new selection and mask tools, a symmetrical painting feature along a predetermined axis, and much more. Illustrator has a new Properties panel and supports more artboards now, only up to 1,000 of them in the same file.

What did you think of the news? In particular, I think that Adobe is in one of the best phases of its existence, and the technology applied to its products, in some cases, is frankly amazing. More news coming soon!

Update 10/19/2017 s 15:58

Adobe MAX continues at full throttle and today, instead of announcing news for existing products and features, Adobe has decided to present something totally new and beyond intriguing: a new project for audio editing in virtual reality environments, provisionally christened Project SonicScape.

The video above gives a better idea of the project than any words could, but basically what Adobe is trying to do here make space audio editing a totally visual and intuitive experience. The sounds appear as visual elements of different colors (according to their frequency), in real time, and you can change their direction just by moving the elements through space. You can control the environment on a traditional monitor, with a mouse, or directly from a VR device. Interesting, isn't it?

The software is still, of course, a project, so it is in the early stages of development and will not even be made available to the public as a test version at first. It is not yet known, either, if the program was born as “unique” software or if its functionality will be incorporated into existing programs, such as Premiere or After Effects. We will have to wait and see, but the idea is really very promising.

Update 10/20/2017 s 12:00

And Adobe won't stop! On the third day of its annual conference, the company showed yet another project in which it is working and, this time, it was the joy of digital artists and colorists from all over the world. O Project Scribbler a tool, still in the early stages of development, that promises to color almost any monochromatic image almost automatically.

Adobe Project Scribbler

Adobe Project Scribbler

Of course, there are tools that promise to do something similar, but they always show results that are unfaithful and unreliable; the jump of the cat that Adobe is incorporating in the tool high doses of neural networks and machine learning so that the software understands exactly what it is working on, whether it is skin, hair, grass, sand, sky or whatever and apply the colors of the as close as possible to reality. The user can also apply textures to the images to test which ones look best according to the job.

Like Project SonicScape, above, Scribbler is still in its infancy and we cannot say whether it sees daylight as a separate product or as a feature of established software such as Photoshop. But we're waiting!
