Adobe acquires Omniture for $ 1.8 billion

Yahoo could merge with AOL

Adobe will disburse $ 1.8 billion (€ 1.22 billion) to acquire Omniture. The deal will allow the company to add to its software content production a way to measure the effectiveness of that content, tools that the acquired company develops.

The market reacted positively to the business, which is seen as a strong incentive to purchase the next version of the Creative Suite, which should already include Omniture’s new measurement and analysis tools.

Adobe’s latest quarterly results, released yesterday, show that the company is being affected by the crisis in sales of its software. Adobe posted profits of $ 136 million, 29 percent less than in the same period last year. Revenue fell 21 percent to $ 697.5 million.

The acquisition now announced should be completed by next November. Omniture will remain an independent structure and will function as a new Adobe unit.

The deal is the second largest in Adobe’s history. The biggest was the purchase of Macromedia in 2005 for $ 3.4 billion.
