Acer plans to introduce new product lines in the Portuguese market

Acer is planning to introduce new product ranges to the Portuguese market this year. In the second quarter, the European manufacturer plans to expand the offer of LCD TVs to the national territory (where until now the business is residual) with the aim of gaining a share and approaching the sales levels already registered in other countries of the old continent.

The introduction of the line of digital cameras in the Portuguese market is also planned for this year and the possibility of starting to sell the MP3 line in the national territory is still under study.

Acer already has in Portugal a commercial team of three elements that will be complemented with another element in the short term. The objective is to reinforce the channel program – through which the company places all products on the national market – and to allow these partners more direct contact with the manufacturer, explained Antonio Guzmán, the company’s new Iberian general director at a meeting with the press in Madrid.

For the Portuguese market, the company is still preparing agreements to make responsible for the technical assistance of the line desktop some of the current partners. We notebooks assistance will continue to be provided from Barcelona, ​​the Iberian headquarters.

Antonio Guzmán explained that the elimination of the local contract for the provision of technical assistance with a Portuguese partner was broken some time ago, following the complaints received by the company, and that he added that, at least this year, the company has no plans to establish a new agreement with another partner.

In 2006, the goal is to grow 75 percent

For this year, the company expects a 75 percent growth in units sold in the Portuguese market, after closing 2005 with a local turnover of 80 million euros. The idea is to grow 20 percent above the market, which, in the company’s forecasts, is expected to advance 35 percent.

One of Acer’s bets is to grow in the middle segment of the market, raising the average level of revenue per equipment sold, from 1200 to 1400 euros.

In 2005, Acer Ibérica had a turnover of 560 million euros, of which 80 million were made in Portugal. At the local level, business grew 11 percent globally and 73 percent in the notebooks, where the group leads.

According to the Gartner Group figures, presented by Acer, the company closed the fourth quarter of the year with a 19.2 percent share in the Portuguese market. notebooks, an increase of 31.3 percent over the previous year.
