Access your desktop on iPhone using Chrome Remote Desktop

Did you know that you can access your computer directly from the iPhone? What’s more, it is not necessary to be close to it – you can be at work, and the PC at home, or vice versa – and another, completely for free!

Imagine the situation: you are at work and need to view information in a .DOC or PDF file on your home computer, which you forgot to copy to a thumb drive (and you, unfortunately, do not use Google Drive). So, what to do?

Remote access software is often expensive and complex, but Chrome Remote Desktop, a Google service completely free, allows you to connect to your computer remotely over the internet, using another computer, smartphone or tablet.

At first it may seem complicated, but the procedure is quite simple. Basically, you must have installed on the PC that you want to remotely access the Chrome browser and the Chrome Remote Desktop extension, plus any software that the extension requests after booting.

Having installed the extension and the extra software, just connect your Google account to the service, and set up a password, the PIN, and that’s it, the computer is able to share the screen over the internet.

To access the computer from your iPhone (and also iPad and Android smartphones and tablets), just open the app and connect with the same Google account. A list of computers registered in your account will then appear. To access them, just touch the desired device and enter the PIN.

The operation of the remote connection is not perfect, so it is difficult to do some complex work, but you can access various information and perform various tasks – obviously there is no way to play that heavy game.

The interface has 3 options: mouse, keyboard and full screen. The mouse is especially interesting because the screen turns into a giant trackpad. If you prefer to use touch, just slide your finger to move the screen, and tap to click. The right click is made by touching the screen with two fingers.

You can also access other users’ computers, or allow other people to access your PC. To do this, simply use Remote Assistance on your computer. To share your connection, click on the “Share” button, and the app will generate an access code that you must pass on to the other person. If you want to connect to another computer, just enter the remote access code generated on the other device.

With Chrome Remote Desktop you will not have a high performance remote access, not least because the difference in screen size between the iPhone and the PC makes things difficult. However, it breaks a legal branch in situations like the one exemplified at the beginning of the article.

The cool thing is that, in addition to the iPhone, it obviously works on iPads and Android smartphones and tablets.

Remembering that it is necessary to have Chrome, as well as the Remote Desktop extension installed and RUNNING on the computer to be accessed.
