PS3 wins application for Android and iPhone

Users of PlayStation 3 and devices with an Android or iOS operating system, such as the iPhone and iPod Touch, will soon have an official console application for their mobile devices.

The software created by Sony will be free and will allow the user to know when their contacts on the PlayStation Network are online and what they are playing or to check the trophies they have won, but it does not offer the possibility to play on the mobile phone.

Among the few details still known are the possibility to receive information about releases (hardware and software) for the console, such as new accessories, titles or firmware updates. The contents can also be shared, via the application, on social networks such as Facebook or Twitter.

The information is advanced by the official PlayStation blog for Europe, where the first images are also available, which we reproduce below.

Appropriately named the Official PlayStation App, the solution will be available first to users located in Spain, France, the United Kingdom, Germany, Italy and the Netherlands.

In these countries, the software will be released “very soon”, according to the PlayStation Europe team, which released the information, but officials say they are already working on a version that will expand support to other locations and languages. Several new features are also to be expected over the coming months.

The application will be made available through the Apple App Store and Android Markt at a date yet to be announced, being compatible with devices with versions of iOS 4 and Android 1.6 or later.
