How to do summary in Word | Productivity

Word allows automatic summaries of documents. With the resource, the page number and title of the chapters are inserted and can be updated automatically after any change in the body of the text. The function is especially useful for those who are doing academic work, such as articles and TCCs.

In the following tutorial, check out how to add a summary in Word and format it in ABNT rules. The procedure was performed in the latest version of Office 2016, but the tips also apply to users of previous editions of the Microsoft program.

Step 1. Select the chapter title and apply the "Title 1" style, in the "Home page" tab. Do the same with the subtitles, if any;

Step 2. After configuring all the titles and sub-titles of your work, position the text cursor in the desired location for the summary. That done, go to the "References" tab, select "Summary" and add an automatic summary.

Step 1. According to ABNT rules, the title of the summary must be in uppercase, centered, in bold and have Arial or Times New Roman, size 14, with 1.5 spacing between lines. To format, simply select the word "Summary" and press the buttons shown in the image;

Step 2. The contents of the summary must be in Arial font size 12 with 1.5 spacing between lines. The other formats are automatically imported from the titles of your work. Therefore, it must be formatted in the ABNT rules.

Step 1. Subsequently, if you have added a new topic to your work or changed any title, just check the option "Update Summary …", in the "References" tab;

Step 2. Select whether you only want to update only the number of the pages or the entire index, which includes new entries, updating the existing titles and page number. Finally, press "OK".
