Next week, the first Portuguese Virtual Reality Technology Center is presented. The project is scheduled to open on October 22 and is led by ICT-VR (International Center for Technology in Virtual Reality), created last year. Sun Microsystems is a technological partner.
The person responsible for the new research structure will be Gastão de Jesus Marques, who will lead a project that was born out of an investment of 7.5 million euros, benefiting from the support of the Alentejo Regional Operational Program.
In the invitation to the press, Sun said that the center «represents a bet, by a region with strong interiority marks, on emerging technologies based on Virtual Reality, in order to facilitate a competitive and sustainable development of companies, institutions and regions» .
ICT-VR was already operating in Portalegre where it has been developing activities in the areas of education, architecture, advertising, industry, tourism, culture, entertainment and medicine.
The organization works in a logic of national and international partnerships for research, as a way to ensure the development of new technologies and content.
An institutional video available on the Internet shows the potential of the center’s technology and areas of activity.
