The data is from the Mobile Intelligence survey of RankMyAPP, a marketing and acquisition company for apps. Investment apps grew by 167% in the first quarter of 2020, compared to the same period in 2019, which corresponds to 2.8 million installations of such programs, according to research by RankMyAPP. Brazil is in third place among the countries with more access to apps in the area.

Finance applications can be useful during quarantine to control spending. Common services include investments, financial monitoring and money-saving advice. The best known options on the market are Mobills, Guiabolso and Organizze, but there are other alternatives, such as assistant Olivia, who simulates a conversation to recommend countermeasures for excessive spending.

According to a report from the Udemy education marketplace, the demand for online education has grown with the Covid-19 pandemic. Data from the platform indicate that enrollment in courses increased by 425% worldwide, while enrollment by Brazilians grew by 95%. The most popular themes in the country are Instagram marketing (increase of 103%), video editing (increase of 102%) and drawing (increase of 84%).

Online classes are an easy alternative to being distracted during quarantine while doing something productive. When social isolation began to be established, many education portals made promotions by offering free courses.

3. Apps for kids

With the quarantine, the Playkids children’s app recorded a 50% increase in the average time spent by users on games on the platform, in addition to a 30% growth in video consumption. The company indicates that the suspension of classes and the remote work of parents are responsible for the greatest use of the application.

Parents and caregivers are using children’s apps to entertain children during social isolation, with content such as cartoons and games, and the increase in consumption of apps in the category is a reflection of this. However, care must be taken to control the child’s browsing so that he does not accidentally access the Internet or inappropriate content.

Delivery applications are among the most sought after, as they are a solution for buying food and other materials without leaving your home during quarantine. RankMyAPP found an increase of 30% in the area in March, caused mainly by the practicality of placing orders: there is no need to make phone calls or use the card machine, since the process is all intermediated by the application.

Recurring names are iFood, Uber Eats and Rappi. Many companies in the industry are looking to social isolation and have implemented protective measures to prevent contagion from Covid-19 during deliveries. For example, some applications now have the option «contactless delivery» so that the customer does not need to interact with the delivery person at the time of delivery.

Streaming had a 75% growth in downloads in March compared to the previous month, according to RankMyApp consultancy. The area includes both platforms dedicated to music, such as Deezer and Spotify, and audiovisual apps, such as Globoplay, Netflix and Prime Video. Entertainment consumption is an online way to be distracted in quarantine, and has become popular with the increase in the time people spend at home.

Applications for making video calls, such as Zoom, Google Meet and WhatsApp, are in the ranking of the most downloaded apps in the world since March, when the quarantine was implemented. The survey by mobile consultancy Sensor Tower usually presents Mark Zuckerberg’s social networks at the top, such as Facebook, Messenger and Instagram, but the isolation has made unknown apps, such as Zoom, popular. This category of applications allows you to do everything from work meetings and corporate management, to getting in touch with someone special.
