56% of Portuguese internet users play online

Sapo opens laboratory at the University of Aveiro

About 1.7 million internet users residing in mainland Portugal access gaming sites from home. This figure corresponds to about 56 percent of national Internet users, specifies Marktest.

In this study, which covers a universe composed of users over 3 years old, casino or gambling sites were not considered but, despite the restriction, visits were made to almost 468 million pages of games for children or adults throughout over the past year, which averaged 277 pages per user.

Altogether, the navigation time in these spaces online exceeded 10.5 million hours, which means that each user spent 6 hours and 14 minutes.

During 2007, the school vacation months were those with the highest number of hits on gaming sites. In March alone, the number of visitors rose to 782 thousand unique users, making this month the one with the highest number of visitors. It was also in the third month of the year that there was a longer access time to these sites, with more than one million hours spent on browsing.

On the other hand, September was the month in which the highest number of page-views: 44.5 million pages.

The leadership in the main indicators is shared by Miniclip and Neopets. The first had 849 thousand unique users and 2.7 million hours of browsing, while Neopets registered 191 million page-views – the second box (games10.com) – and 8 hours and 15 minutes of access for each user.
