40mm Apple Watch Series 5 battery has new design and increased capacity [atualizado]

Yesterday, we brought here the dismantling of 44mm Apple Watch Series 5 made by iFixit and we claim that the new model of the watch was basically identical to its predecessor, the Series 4. The maxim remains – but things are a little different considering the smaller model of the watch.

I explain: iFixit today opened the 40mm Apple Watch Series 5, with no hope of finding any difference from its predecessor. Then came the surprise: in the smaller model of the watch, there is, in fact, an internal difference between the two generations – and it is exactly in drums.

The new component has a new metal housing, probably aluminum, which sounds a lot like a patent that Apple itself published a few years ago and describes “battery efficient enclosure”. IFixit speculates that the new design is more space-efficient – which is proven by the fact that the new battery has the capacity 10% higher regarding the Apple Watch Series 4 component.

In addition, the new battery has some additional benefits: it is much more resistant, preventing punctures or openings in repair processes. The move could also cause Apple to decrease the use of stickers within its devices, as the updated component can be attached with screws instead of glue.

It remains to be seen, now, the reason why Apple implemented the change only in the 40mm Apple Watch Series 5 – the larger model, as we have seen, continues to come with the traditional battery. Apparently, those who like bigger watches will have to wait another generation to receive the updated battery.
