The number of active Second Life users has declined but those who remain on the platform are more committed to taking advantage of the service and interacting with other members. This seems to indicate the figures provided by Linden Labs.
The company that developed the platform reveals that in 2008, 400 million hours were consumed in Second Life. The value represents a 61 percent increase in the time spent by users on the platform.
The number of inhabitants of Second Life reached 16.7 million users at the end of the year, although only half a million remained active. Although they represent a small percentage of the total users registered on the platform, active members of Second Life increased exponentially the volume of business carried out and the number of land acquired by 82 percent. Transactions between users increased by 54 percent.
