In Portugal, there are already 2.63 million users of 3G mobile phones, a percentage that represents 32.1 percent of the national population aged over 9 years.
The values presented by Marktest show that the purchase and use of this equipment has been increasing over the last few years. Only in year-on-year terms, the percentage of users with 3G mobile phones doubled, from 16.1 percent in March 2007 to the aforementioned 32.1 percent in the same month this year.
It is among young people that the highest rate of users of third generation mobile phones is found, especially among those in the 15/24 age group (47.5 percent) and in the 25 to 34 age group (43.8 per percent).
The largest concentration of users of this type of equipment is located in the regions of Lisbon and Porto, particularly among the highest social classes.
Finally, the number of consumers who do not have a 3G but who nevertheless have a mobile phone with the capacity to access the operator’s portal has also increased, now standing at 2.259 million, or 27.5 percent of the population. Those who use other types of cell phones represent 35.5 percent of the universe under study.
