Nortel today announced the cutting of more than 3,200 jobs in its company. The news comes shortly after the manufacturer said it would lay off more than 1,000 employees.
Mike Zafirovski, president of the company quoted by the international press, explains that the measure is mandatory at a time when the impact of the economic environment on the company’s results is felt more than ever.
One of the measures involves cutting costs by dismissing employees. The initial objective would be to eliminate 10 percent of the company’s jobs, made up of 30 thousand employees, something that was overcome with the layoff announced today.
Nortel officials justify the situation of the company, which requested protection from creditors in an attempt to avoid bankruptcy, with the reduction in the number of orders registered over the past few months.
